Stephen grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended prep school at Pembroke Country Day. He began skiing in Colorado at age eight which drew him to the Rocky Mountains for college. He attended the University of Denver and met his wife in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. After graduating from college, he joined the family media business in sales. That career took him to resort communities coast to coast, from Santa Barbara to Naples, Florida, and ultimately back to Colorado where he has resided with his wife and two children in the Vail Valley since 1997. He is very familiar with all communities within the Vail Valley and made his home in Edwards since day one.

Throughout his career, he has adeptly listened to the needs of his buying customers in order to exceed their expectations. This in turn has created a wealth of long-term relationships across the USA. He has been a member of the Vail Valley Rotary Club since 1997, on the Board of the Eagle Valley Salvation Army since 2000, and is currently a member of the Vestry at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration.

When he is not connecting real estate buyers and sellers he is skiing, hiking, and traveling.
